Moses built an altar and called it, "The Lord is my Banner." He said, "Indeed my hand is lifted up toward The Lord's throne."
Exodus 17;15-16
You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket but rather on a lampstand and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
Moses built an altar, calling it, "The Lord is my Banner." A banner is seen by all who go by. The Savior has made you a light, specifically He has made you His light, as such, you and I are His Banner and Light for all to see. To lift our hand up toward Him and His throne is to acknowledge Him in all our ways. This has your name written all over it!
Isaiah 61:3, Ephesians 2:10
"In Korea, I began to ask 'Why?' in fresh ways about many things: God, justice, war, killing, suffering, truth, biblical teaching, etc. I went to see the battalion chaplain, to ask some blunt questions about these matters. The Chaplain's bland response was filled with impersonal and simplistic answers. I left his presence broken. That had much to do with my becoming a Navy chaplain. I turned down post graduate study and opted instead to volenteer to go to Vietnam, specifically requesting infantry Marines. I felt compelled to be with troops in combat and to do for them what the chaplain in Korea had failed to do for me. Don't be a phony. Walk the talk and practice what you preach. Military chaplaincy is a specialized calling, one that necessitates cooperation with fellow Chaplains, irrespective of their denomination. Maintain a gung ho spirit. Work harmoniously with others. Don't disrupt. Don't compete. Help your outfit become one. As a servant of God, do your work faithfully, gladly for the sake of others.Everything else will fall into place."
Navy Chaplain, Eli Takesian, went on to become the 8th Chaplain of The Marine Corps. 1982 to 1986
