Terrible Advice

All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron and the whole community told them, "If only we had died in Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!... Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt? So they said to one another, "Let's appoint a leader and go back to Egypt."

Numbers 14:1-4

Timothy, my child, I am giving you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies previously made about you, so that by them you may strongly engage in battle, having faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and have suffered the shipwreck of their faith. Hymananaeus and Alexander are among them, and I have delivered them to satan, so they may be taught not to blaspheme.

1 Timothy 1:18-20

There is an inherent danger in not choosing your company carefully...being guilty by association is an ancient as well as a modern tragedy. The Eternal fountain of all wisdom put it like this when He spoke through Solomon, "The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm for it." There is never a shortage of poor, terrible advice, and the repercussions can not only be lifelong, they can be eternal and infect every aspect of our life. As The Savior reminds us, we are always overtaken by the results of the advice of our choice. Choose carefully, as though your life depends on it...because it does.

Genesis 3:17, Revelation 13:12-14, 14:9-11

John Newton was conscious he would have to be a good example to those who looked to him for leadership. His friend William Wilberforce sent him this note, "Oh my dear sir, it is refreshing to turn my eye away from the vanities with which it is surrounded and to fix it on you, who appear to be already enlightened with the beams of blessed day which is beginning to arise on you, as you approach the very boundaries of this world's horizon."

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”   Matthew 28:16-20
